The U.S. Census Bureau named North Las Vegas the second-fastest-growing city in America, from 1990-2000.The City of North Las Vegas has approximately 138,000 residents with over 1,000 new residents moving in each month. It is estimated that by the year 2020 North Las Vegas will have a population of over 500,000. It encompasses more than 78 square miles and stretches across the northern rim of the Las Vegas Valley. It is Surrounded by beautiful mountains and at the intersection of the Great Basin, the Mojave and the Sonoran Deserts. There are a variety of golf courses in the Valley. Mt. Charleston is just a few miles away and it is a wonderful place to camp, hike and ski in the winter. Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers camping, swimming, fishing, boating and water skiing. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is also not far and has excellent hiking and mountain biking trails, and picnic areas. Indian ruins and petroglyphs are often visible along the miles of trails that meander across the Valley floor and into the hills and mountains. There are a total of 28 parks in North Las Vegas offering walking paths, playgrounds, picnic area, ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, a swimming pool, shuffleboard, racquetball, a gym, track and field facilities and volleyball courts. The Neighborhood Recreation Center sponsors year round activities for all ages, classes and events including Movies in the Park, Taste & Tunes, concerts and a 10K run.
